Bulk Erythritol Buying Guide: Specifications, Packaging, and Storage

Define the product required for this purchase

"Food-grade erythritol" alone is not a complete purchasing requirement. Within the same project, powder, granules and specified mesh grades can differ in dissolution, mixing, dosing, conveying and packing performance. A supplier enquiry should state at least: - Whether the product is for beverages, baked goods, tabletop sweeteners, tablets or another application; - Whether powder or granules are required, or a mesh specification is to be discussed; - Whether samples and bulk material must use the same form and mesh specification; - Target market, expected purchase volume and intended use after receipt. What product specifications and a batch COA each establish

A product specification defines the acceptance items and ranges agreed between supplier and customer. A batch certificate of analysis (COA) records test results for one batch. They serve different purposes; neither a general product introduction nor a historical report replaces them. Before ordering, check that the product form, mesh requirement and other agreed quotation items match the current specification. On receipt, match the batch number on the packaging and delivery documents to the batch COA. If specific tests, third-party reports, compliance statements or target-market documents are required, raise them before order confirmation so availability for this supply can be verified. Available documents are confirmed against the current product, batch and project requirements; historical reports are not used as evidence for a current batch.

Packaging is more than net weight

Hengliyuan’s current erythritol packs are 1 kg bags, 25 kg bags and 25 kg drums. They suit different uses: 1 kg packs can support sample evaluation, small runs or staged material withdrawal; 25 kg bags and drums should be selected for the customer’s unloading, stacking, feed and post-opening handling. For custom packaging, state together: - Net weight per bag or drum; - Bag, drum or another format; - Inner-pack, sealing, outer-pack or pallet requirements; - Label language, label content and target-market requirements; - Expected quantity, delivery method and required delivery date. Feasibility and effects on quantity, lead time and quotation must be confirmed for the project. Do not add packaging requirements only when production or shipment is due.

Storage conditions must be written into the confirmation list before ordering

Published original manufacturer information can be used to understand common storage ranges, but the values ​​​​for different grades, packaging and supply conditions are not completely consistent. For example: - Ingredion's 2024 ERYSTA® C40 technical specifications recommend storage temperatures below 38°C and relative humidity below 60%; when stored under recommended conditions, the shelf life is 36 months from the date of production. Ingredion ERYSTA® C40 Technical Specifications - Ingredion's other ERYSTA® C40 product information for the European market requires that it be stored in a clean, dry, ventilated warehouse according to the ambient temperature and humidity and away from odorous materials, and indicates a shelf life of 24 months. Ingredion ERYSTA® C40 Product Data Sheet - The erythritol information submitted by Cargill to the US FDA recommends storage in a clean, dry, odor-free area at ambient temperature and humidity; the recommended use period for unopened standard granules in the original package is 3 years after production, and 2 years for bulk bag packaging. U.S. FDA GRAS Notice 789 Attachment These data can provide reference when enquiring: erythritol usually requires a clean, dry, odor-free storage environment, but the temperature, relative humidity and shelf life still need to correspond to the specific product and packaging. You cannot directly write the 24 months, 36 months or a certain temperature and humidity upper limit of other manufacturers as the guaranteed value of Hengliyuan's current batch. The storage requirements of erythritol should ultimately be based on the current written information of the product quoted this time. Items that need to be verified include storage temperature, relative humidity, protection from light, moisture, odor, unopened shelf life, and the packaging format to which these conditions apply. In addition to storage requirements for unopened products, you should also ask about how to reseal after opening, whether it needs to be repackaged, within what time it should be used, and how to dispose of unused ingredients. Customers can provide their warehouse's temperature and humidity range, stacking conditions, opening frequency and expected material usage cycle to the supplier, so that both parties can judge whether the existing packaging is suitable. If the storage environment cannot meet the confirmed requirements, you can adjust the net content of the single package, the receiving batch, or the picking method after opening. Packaging and storage should be discussed together, because the size of the package, whether it is opened and the speed of each use will affect the customer's warehousing arrangements.

After sample approval, how can bulk material be kept consistent with the sample?

If a sample passes the evaluation, it can only mean that the sample meets the requirements under the test conditions at that time. In batch orders, the confirmed product form, mesh requirements, acceptance specifications, packaging and document requirements must also be written into the purchasing record. When receiving the goods, you can check according to the pre-agreed items, such as: 1. Whether the product name, shape and mesh size requirements are consistent with the order; 2. Whether the packaging form, net content of each unit, packaging quantity and sealing status comply with the agreement; 3. Whether the batch number can correspond to the relevant batch documents; 4. Whether the incoming material inspection stipulated by the customer passes; 5. Confirmation results of this batch of products in actual formula and equipment. If the sample and the bulk product are not from the same batch, the batch results of the sample should not be directly regarded as proof of the bulk product. If the customer has additional release conditions, they should state them before confirming the order.
